Are vaccine manufacturers really immune from being sued for misdeeds?

No. It is still possible to bring suit against a vaccine manufacturer. In the mid 1980's Congress just made it a lot harder. Under pressure from the vaccine manufactures, Congress passed legislation requiring victims of vaccine injuries to first have their cases adjudicated in the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP) prior to allowing them to sue the vaccine manufacturer. Congress also passed strict limits on the time in which claimants are permitted to bring their claims.
